Chase Herbstreit, a quarterback in the Class of 2025 and the son of ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, has committed to Michigan.

Herbstreit, who attends St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, isn’t ranked in the 247Sports Composite and didn’t have any listed scholarship offers. On3 reported Herbstreit will be joining the Wolverines as a second scholarship quarterback in the 2025 class, alongside No. 1 prospect Bryce Underwood.

Kirk Herbstreit, a former Ohio State quarterback, is a fixture on ESPN’s “College GameDay” and an analyst on Amazon Prime’s “Thursday Night Football.” His son’s decision to play for Michigan adds another angle to a rivalry that has only grown more heated during the Wolverines’ four-game winning streak against Ryan Day and the Buckeyes.

Michigan’s roster is in the midst of a significant transition, particularly at quarterback. Instead of the scholarship limit of 85, schools will have a roster limit of 105 next season, with the option to allocate scholarships and revenue as they see fit.

It’s unclear how many quarterbacks Michigan will carry as part of that 105-player limit, but the depth chart is likely to change with the arrival of Underwood. Starting quarterback Davis Warren is a senior with a redshirt year available, and backup Alex Orji is a junior. Jadyn Davis, the top quarterback in Michigan’s 2024 class, is redshirting this year and appeared in one game.

Michigan is also searching for a new offensive coordinator after firing Kirk Campbell last week.
