Katie Holmes debunked rumors that ex-husband Tom Cruise had provided a million-dollar inheritance to their 18-year-old daughter, Suri.
“Completely false,” Holmes, 45, wrote via Instagram on Sunday, December 8. “You can stop making stuff up.”
The actress captioned her post, “Enough.”
Holmes was previously married to Cruise, 62, between 2006 and 2012. They welcomed their only daughter together in 2006. Suri graduated from high school earlier this year, going by “Suri Noelle” in the school program. She is now a college freshman.
“I’m proud of my daughter,” Holmes gushed to Town & Country in an August profile. “Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy.”
The Dawson’s Creek alum added, “I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that.”
While Holmes is excited to watch Suri spread her wings, she is more worried about becoming an empty nester.
“The members of my book club are going to get annoyed hearing from me,” Holmes joked to Town & Country. “I’ll be like, ‘Let’s meet once a week.’”
Holmes has kept most of Suri’s life out of the limelight.
“Suri is a great kid,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly in April 2019. “She is so sweet and well-mannered. She’s extremely polite and respectful. She’s just a good girl who is a joy to be around.”
According to the insider, Suri is “very grounded and down to earth.”
“She doesn’t come across as spoiled,” the source added at the time. “She’s kind and she always shows gratitude. She’s a normal tween. She loves pop music and fashion and hanging out with her friends. She’s into ballet and dancing. That’s one of her favorite hobbies. She’s curious and loves to learn. She does well in school.”
Holmes, for her part, previously reflected on becoming a single parent.
“That time was intense,” she told InStyle in 2020, referring to her divorce. “It was a lot of attention, and I had a little child on top of it. [Suri and I] had some funny moments out and about in public.”
Since then, Holmes tries to raise Suri to lean into her “individuality.”
“[I want] to make sure she is 100 percent herself and strong, confident, and able. And to know it,” Holmes added to InStyle. “She came out very strong — she’s always been a strong personality. She’ll pick an activity and work her butt off until she’s really good at it. Then she’s like, ‘OK, I’m going to try the next thing.’ She’s very focused and a hard worker.”
