Vice President Kamala Harris lost the presidential election in November 2024, but she and her husband Doug Emhoff reportedly have big post-Washington, D.C. plans. They might be looking for a new spot to settle down after a disappointing loss and they will likely be met with a warm welcome.

Kamala Harris and her husband are reportedly hoping to find a new home in New York City, according to Page Six. Emhoff was spotted in Manhattan last week, touring a very swanky condo on the Upper West Side with a “convoy of SUVs and a phalanx of Secret Service” in tow. The three-bedroom residence is at the Park Loggia building near Lincoln Center. A source added, “I heard they were looking to be bi-coastal.” (There’s no word if they nabbed that condo.)

The couple have been living in the U.S. Naval Observatory, aka the official residence to the residing vice president, for the last four years. They will reportedly continue to keep Los Angeles as their home base, but a possible NYC property would allow them to maintain their East Coast life. Emhoff paid $2.7 million in 2012 for the 3,500-square-foot residence in Brentwood, which was recently endangered by the Palisades Fire, per Town & Country. Fortunately, their home was spared.

It’s unclear what Kamala Harris’ next career step will be after her time serving as Joe Biden’s vice president. The New York Times speculated in November 2024 that a book or a job in the private sector might be in the cards for her next. She joked in October while on the campaign trail in Pennsylvania, “I plan on putting on some pounds after this is over. They’re working me to the bone.” Still, insiders told the media outlet that “the 60-year-old Ms. Harris will have plenty of options” when she’s out of office.

The decision to look for a Manhattan home will likely be the right move since LA has a long recovery ahead and living in NYC will allow Kamala Harris and Emhoff to stay close to their political roots and his daughter, Ella Emhoff, 25, who lives in Brooklyn. By staying in the cultural mix, the couple is proving they are still interested in the public eye and contemplating what comes next in their private lives.
