Chelsea have verbally agreed a deal to send Renato Veiga on loan to Juventus.

The Serie A side will pay a loan fee of €5million ($5.21m) with a possible €1m due in bonuses. There is no buy option in the agreement and Veiga will return to Chelsea ahead of the Club World Cup, which begins in mid-June.

The Athletic reported on January 21 that Chelsea would be willing to send Veiga out on loan if playing and economic conditions were met with Marseille and Borussia Dortmund among the interested clubs.

The 21-year-old has played 18 games for Chelsea but has started just one Premier League match and has primarily been used in their Conference League campaign, starting all eight matches in the competition and scoring in the victories over Astana and Gent.

Capable of playing as a left-sided centre-back, left-back or a No 6, Veiga has become a full Portugal international since moving to Chelsea in the summer. His versatility will help a Juventus side who lost centre-back Bremer and left-back Juan Cabal to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries earlier this season. Club captain Danilo has also been left out of matchday squads in recent weeks with head coach Thiago Motta saying he can leave.

Veiga joined Chelsea from Basel in July 2024 in a deal worth €14million (£11.8m; $15.3m), signing a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge with the option of a further 12 months.

He is a product of the Sporting CP academy and moved to Basel in 2023 following a loan spell at Augsburg.
