As Republicans bask in the glow of Donald Trump’s astounding comeback victory in the presidential election Tuesday night, the question is, will Democrats do a bit of self-reflection? Will they do a 2012 GOP-style “autopsy” and do a bit of self-reflection, admit mistakes were made, and figure out how to get back in the good graces of the American people? Maybe the wound is still too raw, but if the reactions of leftist commentators during Tuesday night’s election coverage were any indication, probably not.
If you watched Fox News Tuesday night and are like me, you endured Karl Rove. Exactly how many presidents ago was he relevant? You also endured resident liberals Jessica Tarlov and Juan Williams. Each is insufferable in their own way, but as Georgia, North Carolina, and finally Pennsylvania were called for Trump, Williams just couldn’t help himself any longer. He concluded that the reason Kamala Harris was headed for a loss was simple: Americans are…wait for it…sexist.
According to a CNN exit poll, so far, Trump won 20 percent of Black male voters.
Looks like the whole “Vote for Kamala or you’re a sexist” ploy didn’t work.

Williams led up to the sexism accusation by trotting out old faithful, January 6, and “insurrection!” His theory is that voters ignored Trump’s actions on January 6 by not voting for Kamala Harris because she is a black woman. Wait what? Here’s Williams’s “reasoning”:
“Would a white male have done better? Obviously Trump has defeated two women and now a black woman, so there’s all these questions. But to my mind, it seems to me incredible that a guy who led an insurrection against the United States government essentially now is going back into the Oval Office, it’s unbelievable.”
Fellow panelist Brit Hume jumped in and reminded Williams that not everyone believed January 6 to be an “insurrection!” He also brought up Democrats’ constant made-up warning that Donald Trump was a “threat to democracy.”
“You have to consider the fact that one, a lot of people did not think that was an insurrection. They thought it was a riot, but not an insurrection. And had they thought it was an insurrection, he probably couldn’t have won. I think there’s exaggerations about that day about the alleged threat to democracy is a piece of what happened tonight is about.”
It was then Bret Baier’s turn to try to introduce facts to Williams. He stated that Kamala Harris’s campaign ran ads talking about January 6, but those ads fell short because the number one issues for American voters were the economy and immigration. But Williams proceeded to throw black and Hispanic men under the bus, citing a significantly high number who voted for Trump and that the reason was that she is a black woman. But the best part, Williams did not get confused by facts.
“That’s where we differ. I’m not sold on this idea that oh, it was the cost of eggs. I worry that it was, ‘well I’m not voting for this woman, or I’m not voting for this black woman.’”
Note to Juan: just because you can afford eggs doesn’t mean average Americans can, and they are tired of elitists like you dismissing that. Again, Baier tried facts, stating that wasn’t what polling data showed. Martha MacCallum also gave facts a go around, bringing up the fact that many black voters feel that Democrats abandoned them and the issues they care about for illegal immigrants. But Williams desperately hung onto the racist, sexist card, blathering on about “white male grievance.”
Black voters: “Hey we’re concerned about the economy and our place in it.”
Dems and the media: “Obviously you hate black women.”
Black voters: “No it’s just that…”
Dems and the media: “Sexist racists!”

That was enough for Rove, who stated the obvious.
“I think it is extremely odd to suggest that black men are somehow prejudiced because they vote for a white candidate who says ‘I want to make sure that everybody has an opportunity to succeed in our great economy, I want you to be more prosperous and I want to make it possible for you to make a better life,’ That is an appeal to their best instincts. He did not come on and say ‘vote for me because I’m not a woman, vote for me because I’m a white man.’ That would not have attracted those votes. They got attracted to him because they thought he was a strong, effective leader and they thought he would do something about the issues that they care most about.”
Williams backed off, accusing Rove of distorting his words. But again, Williams couldn’t resist implying that Trump is misogynistic, and that was what attracted male voters. He threw in a little racism for good measure, talking about something he called a “bro strategy” for white males. He described it as:
“‘I’m bad, I talk about women in the most disparaging way,’ there’s some men who say ‘you know what? I want to be in on that. I want to be a badass guy, and I think they like Trump’s image.'”
Juan Williams and other Democrats do not yet realize that identity politics have become the latest “boy who cried wolf” for Americans. The reason Kamala Harris lost was because she was a bad candidate with disastrous policies. The other loser on Tuesday night: identity politics.
