As RedState reported earlier, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris has finally agreed to a formal sit-down interview with a purportedly objective media outlet after nearly a month and a half of campaigning, fawning press coverage, and sidestepping any tough questions asked randomly by any of the so-called reporters traveling with her on the campaign trail.

The details, though, are pretty predictable and pathetic, as my colleague Bonchie observed.

Not only will it be conducted by the Democrat apologists at CNN – with anchor Dana Bash being the interviewer, but it won’t be a one-on-one back and forth between Bash and the vice president. Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, will also be there as a security blanket.

Amusingly, news broke of the CNN interview details (it airs Thursday at 9 pm ET) just as we were learning that not only was Harris’ campaign baiting reporters by asking them who she should sit down with, but also that her handlers had been reluctant to let Walz do interviews by himself because he “might not have a full command of where Harris is on every issue.”

That might be, of course, because Harris, too, has the same problem, as evidenced by all the convenient flip-flops she’s done in one day alone… but I digress.

But in the midst of all of Tuesday’s breaking news, including the interview, Harris agreeing to Trump’s terms on the ABC News debate, Harris’ numerous policy position switches, and all the rest, the question of the day was asked by journalist Mark Knoller, who is a former White House correspondent for CBS News:

The mic muting was a not-so-subtle reference to one of the terms Trump wanted in place for the ABC News presidential debate – the mic muted when the other person was answering a question. Harris reportedly wanted the mics kept on, while Trump wanted them off.

Trump got what he wanted.

But in an interview where Harris is bringing along someone who conceivably could run interference for (rescue) her, asking about whether Walz will be muted when Harris is attempting to answer a question is relevant because it seems pretty clear that Walz will be joining her so she doesn’t have to do the sit-down all by herself — even though the person who will be asking the questions is unquestionably a Democrat-friendly media figure.

That said, other questions also remain:

Will CNN give Harris and Walz and/or their campaign team any of the questions in advance of the interview?  How soft will the softball questions be? Will there be any semblance of fact-checking from Bash during their exchanges?

Frankly, I’m not optimistic at all that this interview will tell us anything new about Kamala Harris or Tim Walz, but maybe I’ll be surprised – and in a good way.
