The Biden administration is probably the best argument against DEI, or even sensible diversity practices today. The case of White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is a prime example demonstrating how progressives like President Joe Biden give diversity a bad name.
On Friday, a subtle, clandestine attempt to get Jean-Pierre to resign from her position was revealed in a recent report. Various individuals worked behind the scenes to persuade her to step down because she is woefully incompetent at her job.
The details of how this went down are something and speak to the severe dysfunction present in the Biden administration. Wokeness inevitably leads to destruction.
De facto White House communications chief Anita Dunn, 66, the wife of Biden personal attorney Bob Bauer, told colleagues she had decided to call in prominent Democrats to explain to Jean-Pierre, 49, that the time was ripe to move on, sources told The Post.
“There were a number of people she asked to engage Karine,” said one source who heard of the strategy directly from Dunn, whose role as senior adviser has been filled during the past three presidencies by Jared Kushner (Donald Trump), Valerie Jarrett (Barack Obama) and Karl Rove (George W. Bush).
The source also told The Post that Dunn had claimed White House chief of staff Jeff Zients knew about and supported the cloak-and-dagger scheme to push Jean-Pierre out of the West Wing.
“There was an effort to have some outside folks who Karine knows and trusts talk to her about why leaving last fall would have made a lot of sense for her and her career,” the source said, calling it an “effort to encourage her to move along.”
The long and short of it is that Dunn and others had prominent Democrats meet with Jean-Pierre in an attempt to seed her departure. I guess they were trying to do some kind of Jedi mind trick, suggesting to her with a wink and nod that if she moved on, she’d advance in her career. We can safely assume Jean-Pierre didn’t take the offer, given she remains in her position today despite often being described as the worst White House press secretary in history.
For anyone who pays attention to politics, it is not difficult to see why many in Team Biden’s orbit would want Jean-Pierre to step off the stage: She is clearly not good at her job. During her tenure as press secretary, she has made numerous gaffes, shown a remarkable inability to answer questions without her trusty binder, and has told lies that would even make Pinocchio blush.
If the White House actually cared about promoting diversity, why would they pick someone like Jean-Pierre, who is obviously out of her element in this particular position? Her only distinction is being the first black and openly gay female to serve as press secretary – and that’s it.
The question is: Couldn’t Team Biden have found another minority or member of a “marginalized” group that could do the job? There are likely plenty of people from diverse backgrounds who could carry out these duties with the skills expected of someone speaking on behalf of the President of the United States. Yet, they chose Jean-Pierre.
This is not the first time Biden has made this mistake. Vice President Kamala Harris was chosen as his running mate purely because of her race and sex. Yet, there were plenty of black women who could have done the job much better than Black Hillary.
We all see how that turned out, did we not?
Both Harris and Jean-Pierre have shown they bring little to the table. Yet, they occupy some of the most important positions in the White House.
If Democrats truly wanted diversity, why wouldn’t they pick people people who could excel at the job? Choosing incompetent people only makes diversity efforts look bad. It also gives fuel to those who erroneously assume that any minority who earns a position of prominence only made it there because of DEI or Affirmative Action.
If Team Biden was smart and actually believed what they say about diversity, they would fire Jean-Pierre and replace her with someone else who checks the right boxes while also doing a stellar job. But, as I always say, Democrats’ concern for minorities is only skin deep. This is what happens when they care only about immutable characteristics and not substance.
