You don’t have to be from Chicago to know that it doesn’t just get cold, but it gets cold cold — like, beyond bitter. As a kid, I remember having school canceled semi-frequently due to freezing temperatures. There was even a time experts warned that more than 3o seconds outdoors would cause people’s eyeballs to freeze! There’s no messing around with Windy City winters.

But let’s face it: It’s freezing cold everywhere right now. Whether you live in New York, Minnesota or Louisiana, chances are you’re battling snow and ice on the daily. If you’re struggling with what to wear, I’ve got you covered. The proper coat is key, as is a pair of toasty winter boots, a sweater, gloves and a cozy outfit. I rounded up some of my favorite below-freezing pieces below as well as some must-haves on my wishlist, so without further adieu, let’s dive in!

1. Seriously cold: Perhaps the most splurge-worthy on the list, Canada Goose parkas are worth every dollar. My favorite jacket is almost sold out, but this one is very similar — $1,475 at Canada Goose!

2. European queen: It probably doesn’t get this cold in France or Italy, but if it did, this is what people would be wearing. This knee-length jacket is designed to keep you warm in temperatures as low as -22 degrees Fahrenheit — $1,195 at Nobis!

3. Cozy sweatpants: The quality of these sweatpants is top-notch. They’re made of a cotton, polyester and rayon blend that’s both lightweight and warm. A 28-inch inseam will cover your ankles, too — $110 at Year of Ours!

4. Reversible, but not really: Everyone compliments this mock neck top. It has a fleece lining that is ultra-soft on the skin and a mauve hue that screams winter — originally $60, now $39 at Third Love!

5. Outerwear essentials: If you’re looking for gloves that are as cozy as they are classy, these are the ones for you. They are touchscreen-compatible, water resistant and have fur detailing around the cuff — $15 on Amazon!

6. Expensive look: Functional and chic, you can’t go wrong with this Responsible Down Puffer from Quince. This jacket is water-repellent and wind-resistant (and should be much more expensive than it is) — $130 at Quince!

7. Outdoor day: Whether you’re headed to the slopes or out to walk the dog, I recommend wearing a pair of leggings underneath your sweatpants or jeans. These Fast and Free leggings are my favorite — $128 at lululemon!

8. Fashionistas only: This thick sweater is perfect for quick trips to the grocery store, meeting friends for lunch or strolling the aisles of Target. It has mocha mousse color accents, too — $72 at Grey Bandit!

9. Total steal: My go-to pair of winter ankle boots is nearly half off! These Sperry boots have been a staple in my wardrobe for years — originally $110, now $67 on Amazon!

10. Layering piece: Full disclosure: I’m wearing this sweater as I write! This heavyweight cotton sweater is purposefully oversized yet has the right amount of structure — $108 at Free People!

11. Fleece outfit: This outfit includes a pair of wide-leg pants and a long-sleeve top that feels like a gentle hug. I can’t believe it’s only $20! Just trust me on this one — $20 on Amazon!
