It's a Beautiful Day in the Missouri Congressional District One Neighborhood!

It has been a busy travel year for me. The first stop was CPAC in February, then most recently, Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention in July. When I told people I lived in Rep. Cori Bush’s (D-MO) congressional district, I got a lot of sympathy and “oh no” from my fellow delegates. But as of Tuesday, those days are over! As RedState reported, Bush lost her reelection bid to St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell. Even early on in the race, things were not looking good for Bush, and I have to say, there are a lot of happy people today in MOCD1.

Say So Long, Squad Member: Cori Bush Loses Her House Seat in Missouri’s 1st District

WATCH: Cori Bush’s Unhinged, Threatening Remarks After Getting Trounced in Primary

Let me tell you a little bit about Cori Bush’s district. It includes the City of St. Louis and most of northern St. Louis County. Like most places, there are good parts and bad parts. There are affluent areas, but for the most part, it is a middle-class area. It is a very diverse area as well. It has also always been a very Democrat area. I have lived here all of my life. I live two minutes from where I went to high school. It is a good place to live and still great for kids. But I have seen Democrat after Democrat get elected. At the same time, year after year, businesses shut down, and no new ones ever appear. If they do, they aren’t around long. Large numbers of strip malls sit vacant, and in some areas, there is an endless parade of car washes and check-cashing shops. Like the rest of them, Cori Bush has done nothing to correct this.

Here is what Cori Bush has done. She is under federal investigation by the Department of Justice for allegedly mishandling funds to pay for security services. Part of those funds were paid to her now-husband, who is not licensed to provide security. In 2021, Cori Bush “discovered” Coldwater Creek. The creek runs through a large portion of North St. Louis County and, after WWII, became a dumping ground for radioactive waste. Thousands of people who lived in the vicinity of the creek became sick, and many have died. Throughout 2021, Bush helped push through amendments to various bills that would push the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to clean up Coldwater Creek. But it was all just in time for election year 2022. An election year is the only time you will hear Cori Bush talk about Coldwater Creek.

Fast forward to 2024. Cori Bush, along with the rest of the squad, has been the primary cheerleader for Hamas and any other anti-Israel group. She has called for a ceasefire in Gaza almost from the moment Hamas attacked innocent Israeli civilians. She has continually accused Israel of genocide and war crimes. With roughly 60,000 Jewish constituents, you have to wonder how Cori Bush’s pro-Hamas cheerleading is going over with them. Could it be that maybe part of the reason she will be packing her bags and heading home is that the answer to that is “not well”?

Cori Bush got her start in Ferguson after the death of Michael Brown and the subsequent protests and riots that occurred. It was an awful time of rage and destruction of businesses and property that belonged to people who had nothing to do with Michael Brown. Cori Bush was complicit in almost completely destroying Ferguson, and she is quite proud of it. But Ferguson is a resilient place with good people. It has bounced back from that awful time in amazing ways. Plenty of new businesses have sprung up in the wake of Cori Bush and her ilk tearing them down. Ironically, her defeat comes on the same week as the tenth anniversary of Michael Brown’s death and the violence that followed. She will no doubt be involved with any commemoration of Michael Brown’s “murder.”

Those of us hoping for better in MOCD1 are well aware of the fact that Cori Bush’s opponent, Wesley Bell, is also a liberal Democrat. The thinking around here has been that he may not be that much better, but how could he possibly be any worse? May we not be eating those words a year from now.
