If anyone expected the season’s first international break to be quiet at Newcastle United, they have obviously not followed the goings on at St James’ Park closely in recent months.

Paul Mitchell, their new sporting director, emerged from a bruising first transfer window at the helm by inviting in the local media and fronting up to the club’s summer shortcomings. But his remarks about the club’s post-takeover transfer record, his own “supporting role” in the window just ended and his relationship with Eddie Howe, the head coach, have provoked much debate among supporters.

But what was Mitchell hoping to achieve by speaking to journalists? How is his working relationship with Howe developing? Is the sporting director comfortable with his remit? And will he look to finally conclude a deal for Crystal Palace’s England defender Marc Guehi when the window opens again in January?

You can pose all your queries in our weekly in-season Newcastle Q&A.

Post your Newcastle-related questions below and our Chris Waugh will endeavour to answer as many of them as possible between 2pm and 3pm BST (9am-10am ET).
