Incoming Border Czar Homan Stands Firm on Plans for Trump Mass Deportation Raids After Details Leaked

Incoming Trump administration border czar Tom Homan is a no-nonsense kind of guy. Akin to someone like General George Patton, he gives it to you straight with no hemming and hawing–even when under rhetorical enemy fire on legacy media outlets, like he was on CBS News’ “Face The Nation” recently.





As I wrote, host Margaret Brennan sought to trap Homan with a series of weaselly gotcha questions, on both the planned mass deportations of illegal immigrants under President Donald Trump’s second term, and how the Biden administration fared on doing that over the past four years. Homan obliterated her pitiful attempts to rescue Biden’s failure:

In other words, Brennan’s gotcha question on whether Donald Trump will actually deport the number of people he has promised accidentally gave Homan an opening to lay into Biden’s disastrous failures on the border. As he masterfully said, so that even a child could understand it, of course Trump’s numbers are lower–he did not allow in the millions that Biden and DHS Secretary Mayorkas have. He also reminded the host that ICE could do its great work much more efficiently, if the sanctuary cities would work with them.

Fast-forward to an interview on Friday, when Tom Homan assured Fox News’ Jesse Watters that the host bringing up a new report by the New York Times, which included leaks of details on Trump’s deportation operations starting in one of those sanctuary cities–Chicago–the day after the inauguration, wasn’t blowing his cover. My colleague Rusty Weiss wrote about the interview, and some of what the NYT divulged:

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have reportedly been devising a plan called “Operation Safeguard,” an initiation of deportation efforts for illegal aliens in the Windy City. It is set to commence the day after Trump’s inauguration and run until the following Monday.

Sources have told the New York Times that around 150 agents will be sent to Chicago to conduct “post-inauguration” raids. The Times repeatedly refers to those being deported falsely as “immigrants,” neglecting to add the qualifier that they are “illegal.”

“The incoming Trump administration intends to carry out ‘post-inauguration’ immigration raids in Chicago next week,” the Times writes, adding it marks, “an opening step in President-elect Donald J. Trump’s goal to oversee the largest deportation operation in American history.”





But Homan told Watters “Chicago is just one of many places” where the operations will happen “across the country”:

“There’s going to be a big raid across the country. Chicago is just one of many places. We’ve got 24 field offices across the country. On Tuesday, ICE is finally going to go out and do their job,” said Homan. “We’re going to take the handcuffs off ICE and let them go arrest criminal aliens, that’s what’s going to happen.”

On Saturday, reacting to the leak reports, Homan spoke about Team Trump’s policy plans, telling the Washington Post “that the new administration ‘hasn’t made a decision yet’ about the raid”:

“We’re looking at this leak and will make a decision based on this leak,” Homan said to the Post. “It’s unfortunate because anyone leaking law enforcement operations puts officers at greater risk.”

On Sunday, Homan appeared on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom,” and stood firm when discussing the planned U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids. The legacy media unsurprisingly began twisting Homan’s words, or reporting them out of context, implying that Trump and his incoming immigration team are “reconsidering” them taking place.

The only thing Homan is “reconsidering,” as he said during the sit-down, is not whether ICE will proceed, but that the “when and how” might need to be fine-tuned, echoing his comments to the WSJ about whether something “affect[s] officer safety concerns”:





In an interview on Fox News’s “America’s Newsroom,” Homan made clear that the operation would not be aborted altogether but that officials would revisit some of the specifics to ensure officers’ safety.

“We’re not reconsidering any operation. There was a leak in Chicago. So we’re looking at that leak and find out, how does it affect officer safety concerns?” Homan said, when asked about reporting that officials were “reconsidering” whether to proceed with the operation this week.

“Chicago’s not off the table, but we’re reconsidering when and how we do it because there was a leak,” Homan continued.

As for the likely lawsuits against the new Trump administration from pro-illegal immigrant organizations and others, over the immigration raids and other border enforcement policies, during another interview with Fox News’ “Special Report,” he had just two words: “Bring it.”
