After a recent and brief run on Mt. Hope Avenue in Rochester, an iconic Rochester pizzeria is headed for the suburbs. Bay & Goodman Pizza, which started with a location at the city intersection it is named for, will open at 6548 Anthony Drive in Victor on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
At least, that is the hope.
“We’re trying to get it done by then,” said Larry Piccarreto. “It should be able to happen.”
His aunt and uncle Josephine and Alfonse Salvaggio founded the business in 1955. Piccarreto took it over in 1980 and in 2007 moved it to North Winton Village.
In the spring of 2022, he closed the shop after deciding to retire.
Later he had misgivings, and prompted by adult sons Matthew and Nicholas decided to reopen in it the fall of 2023 in Mt. Hope Plaza — this time with Matthew at the helm.
The Mt. Hope location closed this past April after Bay & Goodman’s lease expired and was replaced by a Mr. Shoes Pizza.
With the Victor pizzeria, the family business will be back on track. Once again, Matthew, 22, will be the proprietor, while Piccarreto will work part-time and continue in his role as a guiding hand.
If you’re traveling from Rochester, the new location is a little over a mile east of the village of Victor in a space that used to house Marvin Mozzeroni’s Pizza and Pasta.
“It’s a growing area,” Piccarreto said. “I think it’s going to work out fine for us.”
True. Between 2010 and 2020, town’s population increased by more than 11%, to 15,860 residents, according to census data. And in 2020, the median household income was $110,395, meaning half the households in the community make less than that and half make more.
When will Bay & Goodman Pizza be open in Victor NY?
Bay & Goodman’s Victor location will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday; and closed on Monday.
Has the Bay & Goodman Pizza menu changed?
Pizza offerings will not change, Piccarreto said. But the overall menu has been “tweaked a little bit.”
For instance, customers will be able to order a bacon smashburger. Also, “We added a line of chicken sandwiches,” he said. “We’re sticking with our salads because they’ve always been very popular. And we dropped the paninis — we’re just doing wraps.”
Bay & Goodman Pizza plans a return to the city, too
In addition to its Victor location, Bay & Goodman plans to return to the city of Rochester.
“We have a tentative deal right now where we possibly will be in the city by Christmas,” Piccarreto said.
He wouldn’t reveal the address but said it’s in North Winton Village. “Back in my old my neighborhood.”
