Contributor Kat Kovac’s Rove Concepts Athena Standing Desk review includes everything you should know before buying—including specs, delivery, assembly, plus her final verdict.

Peak adulthood, for me, has been the excitement over converting the second bedroom in my home into an office. But it’s also brought a challenge: finding a chic yet functional standing desk that doesn’t resemble a conference room table. While beautiful traditional desks are abundant, finding an electrically adjustable standing desk in my style felt impossible. At one point, I opted for a 2013 Herman Miller model that fell in the conference room camp, knowing I’d eventually switch it out for a more aesthetically pleasing piece. Lo and behold, the Athena Standing Desk by Rove came calling, and life has never been the same.

My experience

The delivery experience with Rove was just about flawless. With standard delivery, I was able to choose a date and time within set delivery windows for the dropoff. On delivery day, a truck pulled up, and one worker carted two pieces to my front door. The delivery included a wooden crate, which held the desk’s two fluted alabaster bases, that had screws and needed tools to be taken apart, and a typical shipping box, holding the desk and electronic components. The courier service dropped both off at the entrance of my home, and I was left to take the boxes apart, break them down, and assemble the desk. The messiest part was taking apart the wooden crate; I had to unscrew a few pieces of wood, resulting in some detritus, but there was nothing that my Dyson couldn’t pick up.

After I unpacked it all, I carried all of the pieces upstairs to my office in a few trips and was off to the building races! I’m no expert when it comes to home improvement tools (case in point: I recently watched a YouTube tutorial on how to put an anchor into a wall), but assembling this desk took just about an hour.
