Houston Texans at Green Bay Packers odds, expert picks, how to watch: Two top offenses collide

Two of the NFL’s top offenses meet in Week 7 when the Houston Texans take on the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. The Packers are slight home favorites for this intriguing cross-conference matchup.

The Texans (5-1) have the second-best record in the AFC and certainly looked the part in last week’s 41-21 throttling of the New England Patriots. Both the offense and the defense rank in the top six overall, yet the team’s points differential is plus-eight, and four of their wins have been by six points or fewer.

Quarterback C.J. Stroud is sixth in the league in passing yards and has thrown for 10 touchdowns, but his four interceptions are just one fewer than his rookie season total, and leading wide receiver Nico Collins remains sidelined by a hamstring injury. There’s also a Green Bay (4-2) defense that has already recorded nine picks and leads the NFL with 17 takeaways.

That’s why running back Joe Mixon’s return couldn’t have come at a better time for Houston. After missing three games with an ankle injury, Mixon piled up 132 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns in the rout of the Patriots. He will be needed to help keep the Packers’ defense honest.

The Texans’ defense also will have its hands full in trying to slow down Green Bay’s balanced attack. The Packers rank second in the league in rushing offense while quarterback Jordan Love has bounced back from an early-season knee injury and is tied for second in touchdown passes (12) despite the missed time. Houston has fared very well against the pass so far (league-leading 53.3 percent completion rate allowed) and will need to bring consistent pressure to try and get Love out of rhythm.

Both teams are currently in playoff position, so this game should serve as a good measuring stick as we get closer to the halfway point of the season.
