:: Heavy rains flood parts of Peru and trigger a
60-day emergency for Lima and other areas
“There are families who can’t cross due to the landslide. Even if it is with heavy machinery, please, come quickly to rescue all these people who are there trying to cross putting their lives at risk.”
Among the regions under emergency, which took effect on Thursday (February 20), are the capital, Lima, and the southern region of Ica.
Rains have caused devastation in different parts of the country. In Ica, police agents rescued a woman who had gotten trapped in a swollen river.
Another river overflowed in the southern city of Nazca, leaving serious damage to the nearby houses and crops and blocking roads.
