UPDATE (3:11 p.m.): Crumpled metal, twisted steel and the framework of an indoor training facility came crashing down early Monday morning while folks like Carly Gray were still sleeping.
“I just hear this loud boom, like a roar of a crash,” Gray said. “I didn’t know what it was had no clue at all.”

The $7.5 million facility added to the $165 million Gulf Shores High School construction project at the corner of the Beach Express and Coastal Gateway Boulevard.
“This is a covered practice facility with artificial turf and associated locker rooms and other facilities, and it’s just coming up out of the ground,” Gulf Shores spokesman Grant Brown said.
No one was injured, but construction equipment was buried underneath the steel girders.

“It’s going to take a while to take it apart once they figure out what happened,” Brown added.
“It’s just crazy to see that happen,” Gray said. “We had been watching it driving by on the Beach Express watching it like every day. It’s just so sad.”
Raybren Construction is in charge of the construction project and is taking the lead in finding out what happened and what happens next.

Vehicle crashes into Books-A-Million in Fort Walton Beach
The facility was being built at the new GSHS site near Beach Express and Coastal Gateway Parkway.
According to neighbors, they heard a loud noise between 3 and 3:30 a.m. Monday and found the partial building collapsed.
Contractors and engineers were on the scene Monday to inspect the damage and to figure out what happened.
