George Mason made NCAA history by scoring 23 runs in one inning in a 26-6 win over Holy Cross on Tuesday.
Yes, you read that right — 23 runs. In an even more shocking twist, the Patriots didn’t hit any home runs during their high-scoring game.
Wichita State (1984) and Penn State (1983) held the previous record of 21 runs in one inning, according to George Mason.
With a 0-0 score, George Mason sent 28 batters to the plate in the bottom of the second inning. The Patriots racked up 11 hits, and 19 consecutive batters reached base after eight were walked and five were hit by pitches. Holy Cross needed five pitchers to escape the inning.
Time to update the record book.

The dramatic inning opened with Patriots leadoff hitter Jake Butler grounding out to third base on a bunt. George Mason followed it with two walks and a passed ball before Jonny Wall hit an RBI single to start the onslaught of scoring that included seven singles, four doubles and no triples.
In the fifth, George Mason added to the Crusaders’ pain by adding three more runs. Holy Cross got its six runs across the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
