Liberty Common High School students earned the highest average composite SAT score in Colorado last spring, according to data recently released by the state Department of Education.

The 84 juniors at Liberty Common, a charter school in the Poudre School District, who completed the test with valid scores, had an average composite score of 1,278, according to a searchable database on the Colorado Department of Education website. That was five points better than the next-best average, 1,273 by the 111 juniors at Stargate School, an Adams 12 School District charter school in Thornton. Another public charter school, The Vanguard School in Colorado Springs, had the third-highest average score of 1,265.

The SAT, which is a tool used to measure college readiness, is taken each spring by 11th-grade students at more than 540 public high schools in Colorado. The test, which Colorado 11th graders take for free, is a college admissions test accepted by every college in the United States.

“These scores are a testament, first and foremost, to the hard work and dedication of this talented class of students,” Liberty Common High School Principal Robert Robinson said in a news release. “It is also evidence of a rigorous, classically oriented curriculum, delivered by genuine content experts.”

Ridgeview Classical Academy, another charter school, had the second-highest average composite score in PSD at 1,186, although only 24 students there took the test. Fossil Ridge had the highest average composite score of a non-charter PSD high school at 1,113. The PSD average for all 11th graders was 1,061.

The average score for Thompson School District 11th graders was 977, and the average for Weld RE-4 11th graders was 1,031.
