In her first formal interview since her husband’s historic reelection to the presidency, former and future First Lady Melania Trump sat down with the hosts of “Fox and Friends” on the Fox News Channel Friday morning and shared her thoughts on a range of topics, not least of which was President-elect Donald Trump’s vision for his second administration — and those fancy new dance moves he busted out Thursday evening.

Noting the whirlwind of the weeks since the election, Melania said:

“We are very, very busy. The life is — the pace of it — the transition team…establishing my transition team, and also working on my office, putting my office together, and also organizing the residence and packing — it’s incredible what you need to do…in that situation.”

Asked about the contrast between 2016 and 2024, Melania noted:

“This time, it’s very different because we already know where we are going, and we have all of the plans from before, so we don’t need to go back in. My team is in contact with the White House, so that’s a plus. But we have all what we need, so this is the second time, so it’s nothing new. But the first time was challenging — we didn’t have much access ’til we were in on January 20…But this time, it’s already in the process.”

Melania spoke about her initiative designing and selling collectibles like ornaments that help fund scholarships for students in foster care.

She was asked about the fact that the President-elect seems much calmer and “level” this time around. She observed:

“I think because…we’ve been there, and he was there before, and now it’s different. I think the energy is different; people around him are different…I see that the country and the people are really supporting him….He is focused to make this country great again…and his hard work as well.”

Steve Doocy added that in addition to seeming calm, Donald Trump “seems so…kind of happy and loose” and pointed to a clip of Trump dancing at Thursday evening’s Patriot Awards. Their exchange here (beginning at about the 6:00 mark) is quite funny — it gives a glimpse into Melania’s own sense of humor. (The transcript doesn’t really capture it well, so definitely watch at least that part of the clip if you can.)

STEVE DOOCY: As you look right there, how do you describe your husband’s dance moves?

MELANIA TRUMP: Oh, this is [a] very special and unique dance. (laughter) And I think a lot of people are copying it and everybody have fun with it.

BRIAN KILMEADE: Is this how you dance?

MELANIA TRUMP: No. I don’t dance that way.

STEVE DOOCY: Which part of the Trump Dance — did you give him any tips, like, in the beginning —

MELANIA TRUMP: No.

STEVE DOOCY: — it was low, and then it was up high, and now there’s a golf swing…

MELANIA TRUMP: Nope. He’s coming all on his own.

STEVE DOOCY: Have you ever done the Trump Dance? You are Mrs. Trump.

MELANIA TRUMP: I did not.

Melania also discussed Barron and how proud she is of him — of “his knowledge, even about politics and giving advice to his father.” She noted that Barron was very vocal about the importance of podcasting and streaming in terms of reaching his peers. She touted the importance of being present with your children as much as possible because of how quickly the years pass. Melania acknowledged that the college experience is very different for Barron from most, given his pedigree and stature, but affirmed her pride in his strength and perspective.

She also was asked about the fact that her previous sought-after status as a fashion model evaporated as soon as her husband began running for president and largely waved it away, noting that “For me, we have so many other important things to do than to be on the cover of any magazine. I think the life would not change for anybody if I’m on the cover of the magazine.”

As many remarks as were made during the interview about Donald Trump seeming more calm and relaxed as he heads into his second administration, it’s clear that the soon-to-be First Lady again is, herself, feeling serene and sanguine about their next chapter.
