Fabian Hurzeler questions Brighton game management after Leicester draw

Head coach Fabian Hurzeler has bemoaned Brighton & Hove Albion’s lack of game management after his side drew 2-2 at Leicester City having been 2-0 up until the 86th minute.

Tariq Lamptey’s first Premier League goal for four years in the first half and substitute Jankuba Minteh’s 79th minute strike put Hurzeler’s team on course for a fourth away win of the season.

But Jamie Vardy halved Leicester’s deficit with four minutes remaining and a 91st-minute equaliser from substitute Bobby De Cordova-Reid earned Leicester an unlikely point in their fight against relegation in Ruud van Nistelrooy’s second game in charge.

In October, Brighton were 2-0 up at home to then-bottom side Wolves until the 88th minute, but ended up with a 2-2 draw. They also led away at Liverpool until the 70th minute and at home to Southampton until the 59th minute in November fixtures, but respectively lost and drew those games.

Brighton are a good team – they need to stop conceding bad goals

Hurzeler said of the latest collapse: “When you are 2-0 up, you control the whole game, you don’t give away too many shots for the opponent, then things happen in ten minutes, I think you should be disappointed in the end.

“We got punished for two easy mistakes. I think it happens now several times in the season, so I think learning from it is difficult to use. We need to find the right game management in this period of time to take away the three points.”

Brighton are seventh in the table after three games without a win. They return to action on December 15 when they face rivals Crystal Palace at the Amex Stadium.
