Hello and welcome to The Athletic’s live coverage of Formula One’s sixteenth race weekend of the 2024 season, the Italian Grand Prix at the iconic Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Monza, Italy.

At this point last season, Max Verstappen was on the verge of breaking the record for most consecutive wins in F1 history (10). Not so this year. Verstappen hasn’t won since June, and this season has seen seven different drivers win. Verstappen and Red Bull are leading the championships, but just barely as McLaren has emerged as a true title threat.

And now, with Lando Norris on pole and Verstappen starting in seventh, the championship race will get spicier today.

We will bring you all the build-up— the race is three hours away —with our reporters trackside and experts watching on.

So stay tuned; we’ve got you covered from here.
