On this 23rd anniversary of the 2001 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, here’s a sober thought: It was failed immigration policies that allowed the terrorists to enact their horror that resulted in nearly 3,000 people losing their lives.

Let that sit for a minute.

Numbers USA is a non-profit, non-partisan, immigration-reduction organization founded in 1997. In their 27 years of working in the immigration space, they have researched the impacts of high numbers of immigration influx, such as what is occurring with Haitian, Cuban, and Venezuelan “temporary parolees” in small towns like Springfield, Ohio, Aurora, Colorado, and Sylacauga, Alabama.

The organization seeks to not only educate Americans, opinion leaders, and our elected officials, but they help citizens to petition their government and advocate for sound immigration policies that adhere to the rule of law, promote individual liberties and economic sustainability–and that preserve the environment. Sadly, after 27 years, we are still not there, and the Biden-Harris administration has done its worst to ensure that organizations like Numbers USA have their work cut out for them.

I sat down on Tuesday with Eric Ruark, Research and Public Relations Director for the non-profit, to flesh out how, after a few years of what seemed like sane immigration reform, we have found ourselves back to chaos and criminality at the Southern border, and confusion on how our country actually handles legal and illegal immigration.

Ruark made this profound statement about what is the presiding issue of the 2024 election.

All of the other issues are dependent upon whether we get immigration right. And I think people need to realize that if that’s your top issue, all the other issues are secondary, whether it be abortion, climate change or environmental issues.

Ruark did a concise summary of how we got to where we are, and how Congress, especially its leadership, is complicit in blocking real immigration reform.

“The rule of law has been totally abandoned” by the Biden-Harris administration, Ruark said. Yet Republicans so far have continued to fund the madness. On Wednesday, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) pulled a funding bill that was supposed to include the SAVE Act; He was quoted as saying he didn’t have the votes in the conference, and we’ll see what happens in the next few days. It’s worth remembering that Republicans hold a slim majority in the House,

So, who benefits from this continued destruction of our borders and influx of illegals? Ruark points to multinational corporations, who fund elected officials and our presidential candidates. While former President and GOP nominee Donald Trump has a record of border security and correction, and has also stood against corporate interests and Wall Street, Vice President and selected Democrat nominee Kamala Harris has not.

She is well funded not only by Wall Street, but Silicon Valley and international interests who are benefiting from our current situation. What Harris does have is a record as Border Czar. Her complicity in the current problem can neither be hidden nor denied. But Harris also has a past record as California Attorney General of promoting illegal immigration and championing sanctuary city policies, as Ruark points out.

So, what is the solution? Holding our elected leaders’ feet to the fire on this issue is paramount. Actually voting in November as if this issue is the gravest concern is also key. As opposed to other non-profits and advocacy organizations that have no interest in resolving the problem, but continue to fundraise off chaos, Ruark said that he would be delighted to see the immigration crisis fully resolved so he can quietly retire.
