The ex-wife of a prominent Los Angeles doctor who was gunned down in an ambush-style attack outside his clinic was among five people arrested and charged in his murder.
Ahang Mirshojae, 53, was taken into custody on Thursday and charged with murder four months after Dr. Hamid Mirshojae was found dead in the parking lot of his clinic in the Woodland Hills neighborhood.
NBC Los Angeles identified Ahang Mirshojae as the doctor’s former wife and said law enforcement was seen at her home in a gated community in Calabasas on the day of her arrest.
Officers patrolling the Topanga area just after 6 p.m. on Aug. 23 found the doctor suffering from a gunshot wound after receiving a call about an “ambulance shooting,” police said in a news release.
Ahang Mirshojae was arrested along with four other people: Shawn Randolph, Sarallah Jawed, Evan Hardman, and Ashley Rose Sweeting.
Randolph, 46, was charged with murder. Jawed, 26, and Hardman, 41, were charged with murder with special circumstances, and Sweeting, 40, was charged with accessory to murder, police said. They were all taken into custody this week. It’s not clear if they have obtained attorneys.
Police said the investigation revealed that the group “conspired to commit murder, culminating in the ambush and subsequent demise of Doctor Mirshojae.”
Authorities said he had left his family medicine clinic for the night when a “masked man emerged from hiding around the corner of the clinic and ran toward him.” The gunman fired at Dr. Mirshojae “in an ambush-style attack” and then fled toward a waiting vehicle, police said.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
