Everton loanee Armando Broja is set to be out for 10-12 weeks after sustaining ankle ligament damage.
Manager David Moyes has suggested Broja could return to parent club Chelsea due to the injury.
During Everton’s third round FA Cup match against Peterborough United on January 9, Broja went down injured after a challenge from Peterborough defender Emmanuel Fernandez.
The striker, who had come on as a substitute, appeared to be in significant pain and was given oxygen on the pitch before being taken off on a stretcher and replaced by Jesper Lindstrom.
After going for a couple of scans, Broja is set for a spell on the sidelines in a blow to Moyes, who was recently appointed Everton manager for a second time. After Everton’s 1-0 loss against Aston Villa on Wednesday, Moyes said that the timeframe of the injury could mean he’d return to Stamford Bridge.
“We think he’s going to be out for somewhere between 10-12 weeks,” said Moyes. “It’s his ankle ligaments. It’ll probably mean there’s a possibility that he will have to go back to Chelsea.”
Broja joined Everton on loan from Chelsea in the summer but did not make his debut for the side until December 4 as a result of an Achilles injury.
The 23-year-old came through the academy at Chelsea and has made 26 league appearances for the side, scoring 2 goals. He previously spent time on loan at Southampton in the 2021-22 season, where he netted six times, and was loaned to Fulham for the second half of last season.
Broja has been troubled by injuries in the past and was sidelined for nine months after an anterior cruciate ligament injury in December 2022.
