Good afternoon, good morning and welcome along to The Athletic‘s live coverage of the Republic of Ireland vs England.

On the face of it, this is a pretty standard Nations League fixture between two neighbouring nations. But it is a huge day for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, it is the first match that England will go into without Gareth Southgate on the touchline in eight years. And that means it is the turn of his interim successor, Lee Carsley, to put his stamp on the team.

Secondly, it is Republic of Ireland vs England in a competitive match — a fixture in which fans do not ignore the history between the nations, both in a footballing sense and a political one.

There are still a few hours until the action gets under way in the Irish capital, so get comfy and enjoy our coverage!
