As we all know, President Donald Trump has a history of failing to follow the rule of law, which is what led him to become the first convicted felon to serve as US president.

Considering his criminal history, his most recent post is profoundly concerning for any American who enjoys living in a democracy.

Recently, President Trump’s official X account shared a post that has garnered over 150 million views, that reads: “He who saves his Country does not violate any Law.”
The White House has since doubled down by reposting his statement on the official White House X account alongside Trump’s official presidential portrait.
People are obviously really worried about what this all means, so let’s take a look at some of their reactions:
As you can imagine, people were appalled when they stumbled upon the post.
“Wants to be a dictator. If you don’t see it it means you don’t want to,” former Trump White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci said.
Another user agreed, comparing Trump’s words to statements by historical dictators.
“This is literally a quote attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte — right before he orchestrated a coup, seized absolute power, and crowned himself Emperor in defiance of democracy,” this person continued.
“well this should end the fascism debate!” this user agreed.
Another person compared Trump’s logic to the actions of alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO shooter Luigi Mangione, which many people saw as justifiable.
Another user pleaded with Republicans to be bipartisan and speak out against Trump’s words:
And Trump’s former vice president Mike Pence seemingly decided to speak up, reposting an essay he wrote in 2010 called “The Presidency and the Constitution.”
Here’s a brief excerpt: “The president is not our teacher, our tutor, our guide or ruler. He does not command us; we command him. We serve neither him nor his vision.”
In conclusion, this person said what many people reading Trump’s post are thinking: “He’s getting ready to do something really fucking illegal.”
