Yes, desperate people do desperate things, particularly when they see the walls not only closing in on them but when those walls start tumbling down. Such is the current state of the Joe Biden presidential campaign. And oh how desperate they are — and getting more and more desperate by the day.
Just five days after Biden’s disastrous interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos aired, it was announced that Biden will sit for a primetime interview with NBC’s Lester Holt that will air in its entirety on Monday, July 15, at 9:00 ET.
Is there any valid reason to believe Biden will perform better in that interview than he did in the Stephanopoulos interview? Of course not. Desperate people do desperate things.
Now word comes that Biden aides, fearing a delegate floor revolt at the Democrat convention in Chicago in August, are making calls to individual delegates to assess their loyalty to the embattled president, according to three delegates, each of whom has received a call this week.
Pathetic
After a round of scripted questions confirming each delegate was still planning on going to Chicago — Why would they not? — and asking if they have served as a delegate before, the Biden aide making the call went bottom-line with a boilerplate question, said the delegates in separate interviews:
Is there any reason you couldn’t or wouldn’t support the president at the convention?
Oh, I dunno. What would that reason be?
Similar questions were asked of each delegate.
Do you have any concerns?
Do you have any potential disagreements with the president?
Do you understand what being a pledged delegate means?
That last question is particularly telling.
Emphasis, mine.
Under the Democrat National Committee’s rules, “all delegates to the National Convention pledged to a presidential candidate shall in all good conscience reflect the sentiments of those who elected them.” But polls conducted after Biden’s humiliating debate performance on June 27 have shown that roughly half the Democrat Party has lost faith in Biden and wants someone else to run in his place.
Hence, pledged delegates with growing doubts — or sheer panic — about Biden’s lack of mental acuity could plausibly argue that voting to nominate the fading president without any debate or discussion of other options no longer reflects “the sentiments of those who elected them.”
Here’s more about the calls:
The delegates were thunderstruck by the calls. One of them initially wondered if it was some sort of prank until double-checking the caller ID and seeing Delaware’s area code, 302. After hanging up, each of them reached out to other convention delegates they knew and found these individuals also received the calls.
The three delegates I spoke to, all long-standing veterans of Democratic campaigns, said they had the same initial reaction after hanging up with the Biden aide: Was this an attempt by the president’s campaign to potentially block or replace disloyal pledged delegates?
That’s a great question. Why? Because desperate people do desperate things.
The Bottom Line
Is Team Biden trying to ferret out wavering delegates? I don’t know, but I do know this: I wouldn’t doubt anything these desperate people might do to keep cognitively-vacant Joe Biden in the saddle. Would you?
Then there’s Frau Doktor Jill. God Help us.
