Pentagon bureaucrats fighting a rear guard action in favor of DEI are again engaged in “malicious compliance” to make Secretary Pete Hegseth’s efforts to root out the racist and sexist DEI policies of Lloyd Austin look ridiculous.

References to a World War II Medal of Honor recipient, the Enola Gay aircraft that dropped an atomic bomb on Japan and the first women to pass Marine infantry training are among the tens of thousands of photos and online posts marked for deletion as the Defense Department works to purge diversity, equity and inclusion content, according to a database obtained by The Associated Press.

For instance, an image of the “Enola Gay,” the B-29 Superfortress that dropped the first nuke on Hiroshima, is being deleted because “Gay.”

According to the AP report, the image of USMC Sergeant Major A. C. Gay has had his image marked for deletion because, well, “Gay.” Images of the Tuskegee Airmen, black soldiers, and USMC Medal of Honor recipient PFC Harold Gonsalves have also been selected for removal.

Someone, somewhere, is having a belly laugh over this. This kind of childishness has surfaced before, where opponents of removing DEI from the military energetically attack anything related to race or sex to ridicule the policy while claiming to support Hegseth. Early in Hegseth’s tenure, the Air Force made a big deal about removing the Tuskegee Airmen from an Air Force history module used at basic training; see The Air Force Seems to Have Decided to Use Malicious Compliance to Fight Trump’s DEI Order – RedState. That was quickly remedied; see Pete Hegseth Stamps Out One USAF DEI Mutiny but Others Await – RedState, but it was obvious that the war was just beginning. A former Air Force officer helpfully spelled out the strategy: It’s Back to the Drawing Board As the Left’s Strategy to Sabotage Trump’s Admin Gets Destroyed Quick – RedState.

Hegseth has made substantial progress in removing DEI, and his efforts seem to be popular with the rank and file, but there is no doubt that there is a rotten core of resistance hiding programs (SecDef Hegseth Makes DEI Rules Crystal Clear but Does Anyone Care? – RedState), renaming them to avoid scrutiny, and making a concerted effort to embarrass Hegseth whenever they can.

DEI is an insidious Marxist project that has ruined many American institutions by pitting races, ethnicities, and the sexes against each other in a Hunger Games-like scramble for advantage. At RedState, we’ve been fighting against this evil for years, as we believe that unity, not diversity, is America’s strength. Join RedState VIP and help keep us in that fight.
