Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is in talks to join Genoa on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old free agent has been without a club since leaving United last summer after failing to agree a contract extension.
The Athletic reported in a recent edition of the Transfer DealSheet that De Gea is nearing a return to football after being presented with several options, including offers from Saudi Arabia, the United States and Italy.
The Spain international, who joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2011, made 545 appearances during a 12-year stay at Old Trafford.
During that time, he broke Peter Schmeichel’s all-time United record for clean sheets and became the club’s highest appearance maker for a goalkeeper.
His last competitive appearance came over 400 days ago in United’s defeat to Manchester City in the 2023 FA Cup final.
He won five major trophies during his two decades in England, including the Premier League title in 2013, the FA Cup in 2016 and the Europa League in 2017.
At international level, he has 45 caps for Spain but has not represented his country since 2020.
Genoa begin the new Serie A season at home to defending champions Inter Milan on August 17.
