Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is dealing with a partial avulsion of his hamstring tendon, meaning the tendon is partially torn off the bone, according to a team source. The source said Prescott is seeking more opinions on the injury.

Prescott exited the Cowboys’ Week 9 game against the Atlanta Falcons at the end of the third quarter. He walked off the field unassisted after he “felt something pull” in his hamstring. He later described the injury as “something I’ve never felt.”

While Dallas’ 3-5 start to the season is a team-wide issue, Prescott has certainly felt the Cowboys’ struggles. His 64.7 completion percentage is his lowest since 2017, while his 3.8 percent touchdown rate and 2.8 percent interception rate are the worst and second-worst of his career, respectively. Prescott’s eight interceptions are the most he’s thrown through the first eight games of a season since 2022.

The Cowboys have experience playing without Prescott. After losing their starting quarterback to a thumb fracture in 2022, the Cowboys went 4-1 with Cooper Rush as the backup. Rush finished the five games throwing for 1,051 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions on a 58 percent completion percentage.
