Could America Survive As 'Kamalafornia'?

Sometimes, it really is “that simple.”

The 2024 presidential election falls into the “that simple” category as much as any example I can think of.

Then again, understanding the stark differences between constitutional conservatism and far-leftism isn’t exactly a tough task for the rational and honest among us.

On one hand, conservatives believe in American exceptionalism and economic freedom, are pro-business and pro-capitalism, and oppose excessive taxation and wealth redistribution. Conservatives believe that without protecting our borders, America is at great risk, as Donald Trump says, of becoming “no longer a country.”

On the the other hand, Kamala Harris and the Democrats believe taxes can never be high enough for America’s “rich” and large corporations. The Democrat Party supports abortion on demand until birth, so-called “gender-affirming care,” and permanently changing the demographics of America by importing as many illegal aliens as they can get away with.

British author and conservative political commentator Douglas Murray boiled it down in a Thursday column.

The choice for the country [is] “Which direction, America?” And if you boiled that question down further the question would be “California or Florida?” Both states are sunshine states.

Both have a huge amount going for them in their weather, their natural beauty and much more. But they are also polar opposites — geographically and, more importantly, politically.

Today, Florida is a poster child state for Republicans. A place of low taxes and reformable education. And a state that was sane during the insanity of COVID.

California, on the other hand, is the poster child state for Democrats. A place of high taxes, the most insanely indoctrinated education. And a place which went absolutely nuts during COVID.

Between them you still see the choice for this country. And the decision of Kamala Harris to run for the Presidency makes the choice even clearer.

During Harris’s much-anticipated interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, which was taped on Thursday and aired Thursday night, all she managed to do was desperately attempt to wiggle out of her recent flip-flops on everything from fracking to securing the border. The “interview” was a joke. Here was one such example.

Bash: You said you supported banning fracking. Did it change?

Harris: In 2020, I made clear where I stand. We are in 2024. I kept my word.

Bash: Why did you change your position?

Harris: Let’s be clear. My values have not changed.

Clear?

Then again, Harris was likely suggesting: “Let’s be clear. Of course, I still support banning fracking; I just can’t say so until after the election. Same thing with the border and every other issue on which I’ve flip-flopped and will continue to flip-flop.”

Back to ‘Which Direction, America?”

As I wrote in mid-August, Murray made the same point about the stark choice facing voters this way: “Do We Want to Grow the Size of the Economy or the Size of the State?” Murray argued (correctly):

Kamala Harris believes she knows the choice before the public in November. It is between going “forwards” and going “backwards.” Since the Democratic nominee is wise about the nature of time, she insists that this November, America should choose to go forward.

In fact, it would be good if this country could go back. To the economy we had before Kamala Harris and Joe Biden entered office. Because the most consequential choice there is in this election is between left-wing economics and right-wing economics. Between the economics of Biden-Harris and the economics of Donald Trump.

In some areas of life, the left-right divide is blurry. But in economics, the difference is clear.

While Harris’s blatant flip-flops might confuse some, it serves us well to remember that human beings almost always revert to form. If this hollow husk wins in November, “Kamalafornia,” here we come.

The only thing clear with respect to the Harris-Walz ticket is it represents a radical road that this country can ill afford to travel — particularly after the disasters, most of which were intentionally wrought, by the Biden-Harris administration.
