And just like that, the 2025 awards season has ended with the 97th annual Oscars.
Conan O’Brien hosted the Academy Awards for the first time on Sunday, March 2, following in fellow comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s footsteps. Us Weekly got an exclusive sneak peek of O’Brien’s performance in the lead-up to the ceremony, which he referred to as the “pinnacle” of hosting gigs.
“It’s the one you dream about hosting when you’re a child … as long as the pay is good. I’m looking into that,” he joked in the first look.
Poking fun at the awards show’s tendency to run over its allotted broadcast time, O’Brien continued, “My biggest goal is to enjoy the nine hours of the Oscar telecast. I think it would be a shame to get the chance to host the Oscars and not have a good time, so I’ll be medicated.”
O’Brien’s role as Oscars host was announced in November 2024, two months before nominations were revealed. Emilia Pérez — which stars Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez — earned the most nods with a total of 13, including Best Picture. The Brutalist and Wicked followed closely behind with 10 nominations each. In the end, Anora walked away with the most wins.
