A report by CNN chief legal affairs correspondent Paula Reid indicates journalists were spotted consoling each other in the hallways after learning that President-elect Donald Trump had nominated Matt Gaetz as his Attorney General.

Reid provided the insight during a segment on “The Situation Room” With Wolf Blitzer.

Blitzer inquired as to the panel’s thoughts on what the nomination would mean for the Justice Department. Reid chimed in and pointed out that Gaetz’s pick is controversial due to his ongoing investigations.

“But just because you‘ve been investigated, right, Hillary Clinton has also been criminally investigated, but not charged, it doesn‘t mean you can‘t be attorney general,” she explained.

Then she pulled back the curtain on how some in the journalism profession dealt with the news.

“But he‘s not going to receive a very warm welcome from the career folks there (the DOJ),” Reid added.

If that wasn’t enough to convince you that the selection of Gaetz was lighting a fire under all of the right people, then take a gander at how reporters reacted.

“We‘ve seen people today, our fellow reporters crying, hugging in the hallways,” Reid said. “I‘ve gotten sources — text messages from sources, Trump Administration, the Biden Administration, no one is endorsing this.”

To quote former FBI Director James Comey, “Lordy, I hope there are tapes.”

When you not only get the Justice Department beside themselves over who the potential incoming Attorney General might be, but there’s also a twofer in the fact that mainstream media reporters are weeping because of it? Holy cow.

That Trump pick is legendary no matter what happens going forward. We’re all going to get tired of winning, aren’t we?

The 45th and soon-to-be 47th President praised Gaetz in announcing the nomination, saying he “will end Weaponized Government, protect our Borders, dismantle Criminal Organizations and restore Americans’ badly-shattered Faith and Confidence in the Justice Department.”

I mean, that right there probably caused journos to break down in tears.

As various reports have indicated, Gaetz will likely see the most pushback of all of Trump’s nominees. Senate Democrat pushback is a given. But there will be some Republicans in the chamber that won’t go along with it either.

The only avenue potentially open is to push him through via recess appointments, something Trump has insisted on and which incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has signaled a willingness to pursue.

If it seems too far-fetched that journalists might be shedding tears over the nomination, consider that in the same clip above, CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig dramatically refers to Gaetz as “a crazy pick,” “a dangerous pick,” and someone of “grave concern.”

Get the man a paper bag before he hyperventilates.

As for the DOJ, well, they’re already on edge. Reports have already indicated top officials at the FBI are having a coronary over Trump’s victory, worried about a “bloodbath” of firings.

Things are just getting interesting, and Trump isn’t even back in the White House yet. Everybody — getcha popcorn ready!
