Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert returned to practice for the first time since sustaining an injury to the plantar fascia in his right foot earlier in training camp.

Herbert was expected to be ready for the start of the regular season and his return to the field Monday bodes well for the star QB being able to play against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sept. 8.

He hasn’t practiced since July 31. Following a session where Herbert did not miss a rep with the first-team offense, he was evaluated and diagnosed by the Los Angeles Medical staff.

He was expected to be in a walking boot while he recovered from the injury and Herbert could be seen on Monday wearing shoes on the field that didn’t appear to be cleats.

Herbert was spotted on the Chargers’ practice field without a walking boot last Thursday. Coach Jim Harbaugh said after that practice, “It felt like progress.”

Herbert, 26, is coming off a 2023 season where he missed four games with a broken finger on his right hand. The Chargers only went 5-8 with Herbert as the starter last year.
