Broward County (Fla.) prosecutors closed the case against Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor this week following his July arrest for failing to report his residence change as a registered sex offender.

Prosecutors disposed the case against Taylor, according to Broward County Clerk records, meaning the case is closed by dismissal, settlement, plea or another judgment.

“We successfully demonstrated that Lawrence was innocent of the allegations against him. We are deeply grateful for the prosecutors in this case, ensuring that true justice was served,” Lawrence’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, said in a statement.

Taylor, 65, turned himself into the Broward Sheriff’s Office’s main jail in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and was released on bail on July 18 following his arrest on a felony warrant.

Eiglarsh said in an email to The Athletic at the time of the arrest that it was a “misunderstanding” and Taylor would plead not guilty to the charges.

The former New York Giants linebacker was previously arrested in December 2021 on charges of failing to report an address change.

Taylor was required to register as a sex offender after he pled guilty to misdemeanor charges of sexual misconduct and patronizing an underage prostitute in New York in 2011. He was also sentenced to six years probation. Taylor told Fox News at the time that he was unaware the girl was underage.

Taylor spent his entire 13-year NFL career with the Giants, earning 10 Pro Bowl selections and eight All-Pro nods. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999.
