Though the sports media-manufactured “controversy” surrounding Harrison Butker’s decidedly unwoke speech during a May commencement address at Benedictine College in Kansas died down after a few weeks, that still didn’t stop some public figures from taking random digs at the talented Kansas City Chiefs kicker when they thought the occasion called for it.

For instance, as RedState previously reported, tennis star sisters Serena and Venus Williams along with comedian Quinta Brunson took cheap shots at Butker during the ESPY Awards in July, with Venus saying people should enjoy women’s sports as much as they did men’s sports “because they are sports,” and Serena adding “Except you, Harrison Butker. We don’t need you.”

For good measure, Brunson tacked on an “At all…Like, ever.” Butker was in the audience.

But just as he did in the aftermath of the nontroversy over the Catholic-themed remarks he gave at the Catholic college, Butker is once again having the last laugh on his critics, signing a huge deal with the Chiefs that will keep him there through 2028 and which will reportedly make him the highest paid kicker in the NFL:

The NFL has a new highest-paid kicker.

Harrison Butker and the Kansas City Chiefs agreed Monday to a four-year, $25.6 million contract extension that includes $17.75 million guaranteed, according to multiple reports. The agreement vaults Butker past the Baltimore Ravens’ Justin Tucker and Philadelphia Eagles’ Jake Elliott, who previously were tied as the top earners at the position with four-year, $24 million deals.

Butker, 29, converted a career-best 94.3% (33 of 35) of his field goals last season while hitting all 38 of his extra-point attempts. His career 89.14% career field goal conversion percentage ranks second in NFL history, trailing only Tucker’s mark of 90.18%.

The especially neat thing about it all is that Butker repped and negotiated the particulars of the deal himself:

Butker celebrated the deal on the Twitter/X machine, saying “There’s no place I’d rather be than with the Chiefs”:

It doesn’t happen often enough, but it’s nice to see one of the good guys win for a change. With three Super Bowl rings under his belt along with the records he’s set – not to mention the praise he earned from Coach Andy Reid and his fellow players including QB Patrick Mahomes amid the outrage mob’s failed cancel campaign, I’d say Butker is not only well thought of among his colleagues, but he’s also well worth it.
