A Buckeye man was arrested late Saturday evening after exchanging gunfire with officers during what investigators believe to be a domestic violence incident.

Carissa Planalp, a Buckeye Police Department spokesperson, said officers responded to a home near Miller Road and Burgess Lane at around 11:30 p.m. after a woman told police her husband was armed with a gun and threatening to kill her. The woman walked out of her home as officers arrived when her husband, a man in his 50s, followed and began shooting at officers.

Planalp said at least one officer returned fire as the man went back inside the home. No officers were injured.

Just after 1 a.m., the man exited the home and was arrested without incident.

Planalp said the man was also uninjured and would release his identity after he had been booked into jail. It was not immediately clear what criminal charges police would recommend to prosecutors as of Sunday morning.
