The Cleveland Browns and Myles Garrett agreed to terms on a new deal averaging $40 million per year and including $123 million guaranteed, league sources said Sunday.
The move makes Garrett the highest-paid non-quarterback in league history and comes one month after the star pass rusher requested a trade out of Cleveland.
“While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent,” Garrett said in a February statement. “The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl.”
This past season, Garrett, 29, became the youngest player to reach 100 career sacks and the first player to record 14 or more sacks in four straight seasons. Garrett has posted double-digit sacks in every season but his rookie year in 2017. He’s posted 102.5 sacks and 352 tackles in his eight-year career, all of which he’s spent in Cleveland since the team drafted him with the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
