Brighton & Hove Albion are in talks with midfielder Pascal Gross over a contract extension.

The 32-year-old Germany international has a year remaining on his current deal and Brighton are hopeful of persuading him to stay to work under incoming head coach Fabian Hurzeler, with the club currently in talks with St Pauli.

Gross has been linked with a move back to Germany to finish his career by the German media but Brighton want him to renew his stay.

Gross has scored 30 goals and contributed 45 assists in 228 Premier League appearances for Brighton since signing from Ingolstadt for £3million in 2017.

His future will become clearer after he features for host nation Germany in this summer’s European Championships, starting on Friday when his nation play Scotland in the tournament’s opening match.

Gross warmed up for the Euros with a spectacular late winner as a substitute for Julian Nagelsmann’s side in Friday’s 2-1 friendly win against Greece.

Brighton are planning for Gross’s Germany squad team-mate Deniz Undav to be back with them next season. The 27-year-old striker forced his way into Nagelsmann’s plans with 18 goals and ten assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances on loan to Stuttgart last season which helped them qualify for the Champions League.

Undav has two years left on his contract at Brighton. They control a buy option which was included in the loan agreement with Stuttgart.

Brighton are in the process of agreeing compensation for 31-year-old Hurzeler with St Pauli after he led them to promotion to the top flight Bundesliga in May.
