He quickly stood up and boldly asked, “Who’s the other one?”

That confidence, despite some early challenges, has carried Mr Langley through a successful 20-year career in real estate, now going from strength to strength with Area Specialist in Melbourne’s southeastern growth corridor.

“I always wanted to get into real estate but couldn’t read or write,” Mr Langley said.

“Everything changed after a trip to Daydream Island where I pushed myself to read Richard Branson’s book. I came back, registered for my real estate course, and never looked back.”

Operating in the Officer/Pakenham area since 2004, Mr Langley has witnessed the region’s transformation from a modest suburb of 6,000 homes to one of Australia’s fastest-growing corridors.

“The area has evolved significantly,” he said.

“What used to be predominantly first-home buyers is now seeing luxury homes being built, with many second and third-home owners moving in.”

Three and a half years ago, during COVID, Mr Langley made the strategic decision to join Area Specialist, looking for more autonomy and better financial rewards.

“I realised I was paying 50 per cent commission for essentially just a desk,” he said.

“Since joining Area Specialist, we’ve achieved financial freedom while maintaining our service levels, and I have more time for family.”

Community involvement is a key to Mr Langley’s approach.

He runs the Grandview estate Facebook page, serves as Vice President of the Pakenham Show, and regularly volunteers as an MC for local charity events.

Working alongside his wife, who manages administration while he handles client relationships, Mr Langley has recently expanded his team to include some more experienced agents.

At 60 years of age, Mr Langley believes his mature approach and community focus have been key to his success.

“If you hire me, you’ve got me for life,” he said.

“It’s not about transactions – it’s about building lasting relationships and being a trusted resource for the community.”

Reflecting on his journey from his early life challenges to his current real estate success, Mr Langley said he is humble yet proud of his achievements.

“I became self-taught and everything fell into place,” he said.

“Now the sky’s the limit.”
