I admit it, I like Netflix. During the pandemic, when our Overlords here in California demanded we stay in our living rooms for two years, I watched countless terrible movies as well as some quality entertainment—it’s always hit or miss with the streamer.

But I may soon vote with my wallet and join the multitudes who canceled the service after co-founder Reed Hastings revealed he donated a whopping $7 million in July to the Harris-Walz campaign. Imagining that some of my hard-earned dollars went to support those socialist weirdos makes me ill.

Many customers took notice at the time and said, no thanks:

Netflix saw a dramatic spike in cancelations after its co-founder Reed Hastings revealed he donated $7 million to Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign, according to a report.

Cancelations on the streaming platform almost tripled in the United States after Hastings made the massive donation to a super PAC supporting Harris’ presidential bid, Bloomberg reported, citing the researcher Antenna…

That same month, Netflix customers reportedly canceled their subscriptions at a higher rate than any month since February 2024, Bloomberg reported.

This social media user asked a salient question, “Why can’t companies just remain neutral?”

Indeed—why? Why, for instance, does a beer maker feel the need to get themselves involved in divisive transgender politics? I’m not usually Mr. Boycott, but I can tell you I haven’t had a single Bud Light since their attempt to sell us on the virtues of Dylan Mulvaney. My kids are getting past the Disney stage, but even if they weren’t, I haven’t felt the pull to go down to Disneyland going on years now since they decided that gender politics was more important than story-telling.

Now, every time I turn on a Netflix show, I’ll be thinking in the back of my mind, wait, these people support that jazz-handed communist, Tim Walz.

Naturally, the Hollywood company shifted the blame and said the subscriber drop had nothing to do with Hastings’ move:

The outlet attributed the increase in cancelations to the company’s latest announcement that it would phase out its lowest cost option.

“But the five-day period after Hastings’ endorsement was unusual, even for July,” the Bloomberg article states, noting that July 26 marked the single worst day for Netflix cancelations this year. News of Hastings’ hefty donation for Harris was revealed three days prior.

Somehow I missed this news in July. It’s never too late, though, and today is just as good a day as any to say, “Sayonara, Netflix.” I don’t need to pay for your overpriced service if that money is being sent to support a campaign that seems hell-bent on destroying America as we know it. Good riddance.
