The border crisis has had a profoundly negative impact on major cities across the United States, but several developments have shown that the situation at the southern border has created even more dangers for those residing in the country.

Border Patrol recently reported a notable uptick in the number of convicted sex offenders apprehended while trying to sneak over the southern border. This raises a serious question: How many will be harmed because the Biden administration is not taking this problem seriously?

Chief Patrol Agent Robert Danley of U.S. Border Patrol’s Del Rio section took to Twitter to reveal that since Oct. 1, 2023, the Del Rio sector agents have apprehended 54 convicted sex offenders after they crossed the border illegally and attempted to “evade law enforcement.”

“Our agents remain steadfast in safeguarding our border and protecting our communities,” Danley stated.

The October numbers, which is the beginning of the fiscal year 2024 for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data, were part of a record-high month late last year. Data from federal authorities showed that 240,988 migrant encounters occurred at the southern border within October, which was sustaining a record amount while under the Biden administration.

By December 2023, CBP data showed that the month was one of the highest monthly recordings ever by officials, hitting 302,034 encounters at both ports of entry as well as between ports of the U.S.-Mexico border entry. However CBP data later showed that January dropped by an estimated 42% from December, with officials recording 176,205 total encounters along the southwest border.

This is not the first story raising concerns about sex offenders making it into the country illegally. Back in 2021, I wrote about a 3,166 percent increase in the number of sex offenders trying to sneak into the U.S.

From May 17 to May 24, Border Patrol arrested ten individuals who were convicted of sex crimes soon after they entered the country. Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Austin L. Skero II said: “The majority of these criminals were apprehended in our sector’s most remote areas, attempting to avoid detection by crossing far from populated areas.”

He added: “Our agents’ sign cutting and tracking skills were instrumental in capturing these criminals, preventing them from infiltrating our communities.”

In January, Border Patrol caught two child sex offenders and a murderer at the southern border.

This situation is not sustainable by any stretch of the imagination. These reports raise the obvious question: If these are the numbers of people Border Patrol caught, how many more were able to make it into the country without being detected? The answer is one that would probably terrify us if we knew for sure.

There have already been several instances showing how dangerous the porous border is. The murder of Laken Riley and the beating of an NYPD police officer at the hands of illegal immigrants are but two examples.

Unfortunately, these incidents will continue happening as long as the White House fails to act.
