ST. LOUIS — Blues general manager Doug Armstrong has been signed to a three-year contract extension as president of hockey operations, taking him through the 2028-29 season, the team announced Thursday. Former Blues player Alexander Steen will replace Armstrong as general manager for the 2025-26 season, according to the team.

Team chairman Tom Stillman outlined the succession plan in a news conference, saying that Armstrong came to him earlier this year to make the case for a new GM.

Armstrong has been the Blues’ GM since 2010, previously serving as director of player personnel for the team and as general manager for the Dallas Stars before that. The Blues are 601-364-112 in his tenure as GM, the fifth-most wins in the NHL in that 14-season span, with 10 playoff appearances.

Steen played the final 765 of his 1,018 NHL games for the Blues, winning the Stanley Cup with the team in 2019. He was named the team’s European player development consultant in 2023. He has been promoted to special assistant to the GM until he becomes the team’s 12th GM. He signed a five-year contract.

The Blues are also promoting Tim Taylor, who has been director of player personnel, to assistant general manager.
