The Athletic has live coverage of the 2025 NHL trade deadline.

The Detroit Red Wings have acquired goaltender Petr Mrázek and center Craig Smith from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for center Joe Veleno.

Mrázek was No. 18 on The Athletic’s latest trade board.

The Blackhawks recently acquired Spencer Knight from the Florida Panthers for defenseman Seth Jones, making Mrázek available. The veteran netminder has over 400 games of experience. This will be his second stint with Detroit. He also played for the Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Mrázek has a .890 save percentage and 3.46 goals-against average over 33 games with Chicago this season.
