Artyom Levshunov won’t be using the upcoming prospect showcase as a springboard into the Blackhawks’ NHL training camp as other top rookies have in the past.
The Blackhawks announced Wednesday that Levshunov will miss the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase this weekend after suffering a recent right foot injury. The injury occurred when Levshunov was struck in the foot by a puck in a recent training session. Levshunov’s return timetable was not announced.
The Blackhawks selected Levshunov, an 18-year-old defenseman, with the second pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. He later decided to forego his remaining college eligibility after one season at Michigan State and signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Blackhawks.
Levshunov was expected to play with other Blackhawks prospects in the Tom Kurver Prospect Showcase in St. Louis this weekend. The Blackhawks are playing the St. Louis Blues on Friday and Minnesota Wild on Saturday. The Blackhawks open their NHL training camp on Sept. 18.
