Billy Gilmour is set to join Napoli on a permanent transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The two clubs have agreed a fee of an initial £12million plus £4m in add-ons, and Brighton will retain a sell-on percentage.

Gilmour will sign a five-year deal that will run until 2029.

The 23-year-old will end his two-year stay at Brighton to move to the Italian club, who completed the signings of Romelu Lukaku and Gilmour’s Scotland team-mate Scott McTominay from Chelsea and Manchester United respectively earlier this week.

Gilmour’s exit comes after Matt O’Riley suffered a serious ankle injury in Brighton’s Carabao Cup victory over Crawley Town on Tuesday evening.

O’Riley, who joined the club from Celtic in a £25million move, will undergo surgery to repair left ankle ligament damage to repair the damage sustained in a late tackle from Crawley’s Jay Williams.

Gilmour did not feature for Brighton during pre-season but has played a part in both of Brighton’s Premier League outings under new head coach Fabian Hurzeler, including the full 90 minutes in their 2-1 win over Manchester United last weekend.

Gilmour joined Brighton in the summer of 2022 from Chelsea, where he made 22 first-team appearances across two seasons.

The central midfielder, who spent the 2021-22 on loan at Norwich City, played 60 games for Brighton.

Gilmour has been capped 30 times by Scotland and featured in all three matches at this summer’s European Championship — coming on as a substitute in the defeat to Germany before starting in the draw against Switzerland and defeat to Hungary.
