Joe Biden showed up at a White House briefing on Friday. But he didn’t show up to speak about Hurricane Helene or even to wish people well. He showed up to brag about job numbers, answered a few questions and then beat it out of there.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken then continued with the tone-deafness by posting on X about giving $157 million in humanitarian response…to Lebanon, and how they were “committed to supporting those in need and delivering essential aid to displaced citizens.” That got eight million views on X, with virtually all the people ripping Blinken for being tone-deaf.

But that wasn’t all. You also had this clueless post from Samantha Power, who is currently the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). She wants us to know how “Americans” [translate: the Biden administration with our money] are keeping the lights and heat on in Ukraine:
How Americans are helping Ukraine keep the lights and heat on despite Putin’s attacks: pic.twitter.com/29f1AxpgR7

Power said they were “doubling our investments” in replacing auto-transformers in Ukraine.
More than 200 people have died due to Hurricane Helene in this country. Some are still missing, power is still out in many places, roads have been washed out and people have been cut off, but this is what she posts? What about transformers for the hurricane-affected areas?
Private citizens and organizations, including people like Elon Musk, have been jumping in to help because the need is so great; there are all kinds of questions about the government’s response.

The anger was palpable on X. And what was that about supposedly being out of money for FEMA again?
In response to Power’s comment, some wondered if they hated us and if they wanted to lose the election, when they post clueless things like this. Are they not reading the room or do they just not care?
Some Americans still don’t have power from Helene. Some Americans have lost everything.
More than 200 Americans dead and thousands devastated.

It’s pretty tone deaf, and frankly insulting, for the U.S. to be boasting about out helping a foreign country “keep the lights and heat on” when, today, tens of thousands of American in N Carolina & elsewhere more urgently need that same help.
