Bayern Munich’s Coman out of Arsenal game with injury; Neuer, Sane rested ahead of second leg

Bayern Munich forward Kingsley Coman has been ruled out of his side’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Arsenal.

Coman, 27, sustained a right adductor injury during Bayern’s 2-0 Bundesliga win over Cologne on Saturday and had to be withdrawn in the 50th minute.

Bayern captain Manuel Neuer and winger Leroy Sane were rested for the game ahead of Wednesday’s home leg against Arsenal.

Both had been injury doubts ahead of the first leg but started at the Emirates, with Sane making way for Coman during the second half of the 2-2 draw. Sane had won the penalty which Harry Kane converted in the first half to give Bayern a 2-1 lead.

Bayern said Neuer and Sane were rested “as a precautionary measure” but Coman faces “several weeks” on the sidelines.

A knee injury which ruled Coman out for almost two months has seen the Frenchman restricted to only 27 appearances in all competitions for Bayern this season, in which he has contributed five goals and three assists. His latest injury also places a small doubt on his involvement at this summer’s European Championship with France.

“Kingsley Coman will be out of action for FC Bayern for several weeks after the forward suffered an injury in his right adductor muscle in the Bundesliga home game against Koln on Saturday,” a Bayern statement read. “This was confirmed following an examination by FC Bayern’s medical department.”

Bayern beat Cologne thanks to second-half goals from Raphael Guerreiro and Thomas Muller, thereby delaying Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga title celebrations.

Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen will be crowned league winners — therefore ending Bayern’s run of 11 straight Bundesliga titles — if they beat 12th-placed Werder Bremen at home on Sunday.
