Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Andres Garcia from Levante in a deal worth €7million (£5.91m; $7.2m).

An agreement was struck on Friday and is close to ending Villa’s pursuit of signing a right-back this month, having been a priority position for Unai Emery.

Other players, such as Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza, Andrei Ratiu from Rayo Vallecano and Flamengo’s Wesley Franca were considered, but Garcia suits the profile of right-back the club want and is a financially viable option.

The 21-year-old has made 22 La Liga appearances this season, scoring three times and assisting a further three goals.

His arrival will likely mean Kosta Nedeljkovic – another young right-back – will be allowed to leave on loan.

Ahead of the January transfer window, Villa targeted a versatile attacker and a right-back and following the arrival of Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund, Garcia will fulfil the other outstanding position.

Villa intend to strengthen in central defence provided Diego Carlos leaves, with Galatasaray and Fenerbahce interested in the Brazillian’s signing.

However, no agreement has been reached with either club.
