Arsenal have been fined £65,000 following their players’ reaction to Myles Lewis-Skelly’s sending off at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The full-back, 18, was shown a straight red card for ‘serious foul play’ by referee Michael Oliver in the 43rd minute of the game on January 25 after a challenge on Wolves defender Matt Doherty.
A number of Arsenal players surrounded Oliver to protest against his decision before it was checked and cleared by video assistant referee Darren England.
Arsenal went on to win the game 1-0 through a late Riccardo Calafiori goal.
The club later appealed against what would have been a three-match ban for Lewis-Skelly and were successful in overturning the sanction but have still been fined after an independent commission deemed them to have failed “to ensure their players did not behave in an improper way” following the dismissal.
An Football Association statement read: “An independent regulatory commission has imposed a £65,000 fine on Arsenal in relation to the Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday 25 January.
“It was alleged that Arsenal failed to ensure their players did not behave in an improper way around the 43rd minute, and the club subsequently admitted to this charge.”
Arsenal as a club have been shown four red cards this season, the most in the Premier League.
Declan Rice was sent off for delaying the restart against Brighton & Hove Albion in August, Leandro Trossard was dismissed for the same offence against Manchester City in September and William Saliba was shown a straight red card after committing a foul as the last man against Bournemouth in October.
